Who here is currently or has put together a full grade set? I'm thinking about it......

I've always thougt it would be most interesting to put together a complete grade set......but I've been unsure about whether it should be for a specific date (1921 Peace dollars PO01-MS67) or type (Peace dollars of any year PO01-MS67).

Who here has put together a full grading set? What did you chose and why? Looking for your thoughts......

I like the idea. Whatever series I chose, I would probably do all one
date, and make it one that typically comes well-struck.

A key-date full-grade set would be awesome! image

Have done a full grading set of 1972 DDO cents. Only grade it is missing is MS-68RD.

Trying to do the same thing for the 1982 no P dime. Not the FB version.

Also the 1945-P dime in FB only.

Why? It seems I like to do grading sets of die varieties. Why you ask? Must be a loose screw in there somewhere. These are all semi-keys and tough on the budget.

    Craig:

I'm doing a circulated-only set (due to MS cost constraints) of the 1895-S Morgan dollar, and all PCGS-graded.

I chose that date for two main reasons: First, it is a meaning (desireable) date in all grades. Second, because I could afford it in AU58. The third reason was because while I was building a complete date and mintmark set of Morgans I had bought mint state coins almost exclusively, so my knowledge of circulated grading was very limited and I wanted to learn more.

After nearly four years I am still not finished (still need Good-04 and Fine-15). I had no idea that 1895-S coins in every grade sell so quickly when they become available!

The process has taught me FAR more about circ. Morgan grading than I ever imagained it would -- particularly in regards to third party grading firms. To sum it all up, no one grades circ. Morgans quite the way PCGS does. It is VERY tough to cross another TPG's circ. Morgan at the same grade at PCGS.

The toughest coin to find, bar none, was Poor-01. I was shocked to learn that PCGS had even graded a single example of 1895-S at that grade, and I'll still pinching myself that I got the opportunity to buy it!

Good luck on your quest; I'm confident that you will learn tremendously more than you expect.
    When in doubt, don't.

    Full Buffalo Nickel Grading Set.

I put a grading set together just this weekend. I like doing this and am currently working on a barber dime grading set for the forum to see.
