If you could find that one coin..........

that you've been searching for, what would it be. I'm not talking about the Gothic Crowns and Unas. Just the hard to find rareities that seem to elude you at every turn. They may not even be that expensive.
For me it's a 1943 South Africa Proof 1/2d. It has a mintage of 104, which is low but not the lowest of my collection. It would fill a big hole in my set. I've never seen one offered outside of a complete proof set.
What's yours???

A day late? How 'bout a dollar short....

Mine is a Victoria Young Head sovereign....stone-cold gem unc.

The 1842 went cheap, but I was waiting for the 1851, and it blew me away.... ! image I shoulda went at least 2 more increments.

I passed on an 1838 which wasn't quite a true gem, and then PCGS put it in a "coffin". imageimageimage

I sleep well knowing that Vic will one day bring me nirvahna for a song!!! La-la-la-la-laaaaaaa! How's that Vicky? image

A William & Mary crown, even in Good condition. (No sense in even dreaming of an affordable William IV crown!)

1877 Proof Farthing - No currency struck for 1877

That's a good choice too. But at what cost? £2500 or so!!!image

That's what troubles me. Any other non-year set proof is £250-£400. It's a mega version of a 1927 Florin.

That 3-coin set (farthing, halfpenny, penny) is one of the most desired sets of the 19th century.

  • I have several coins that have been hard to find, some of recent issue, most dealers just don't have them, even though I need them to complete some type sets.
I will probably resort to sending a favorite dealer a want lis in order to get them....

I'd like to find an 1876 Romanian 1 leu that I can see in person before I buy it (VF or better). I've never seen one before. That's the last coin I need for my 20 cent piece equivalent collection.

  • A nice 1937 Mirror Specimen Canada 5c. Charlton lists a SP65 at $150, and SP67 at $300. I know I'd likely have to pay more than that (especially for a 67), but I can never seem to find one.
