I've spoken to the seller about this coin, and how it probably won't sell. This is at least the third time it has been up for sale at ever-decreasing opening bids. The PCGS holder, in my opinion, does not sell well in the Irish market.
Notice this has no bids. If it did it would be something to talk about.
Wanted: High grade Irish (Republic of Ireland, not Northern Ireland or British) coins, slabbed and unslabbed. Also looking for Proof and Uncirculated Sets PM with info.

If that turns out to be the case and I suspect it will, I will not feel so bad about giving mine away for $12.

Actually, getting one as nicely unblemished as a 68 is no small feat. It took me a long time to find one I really liked as the Uprising commemoratives are very prone to picking up nicks (rather than micks). Still, so many US dealers are so-o-o hopeful that the radical micrograde markups so prevalent these days on US coins will translate to the same on world coins. I truly hope it never does.
He may be baiting for a sucker but most likely you're right Askari. That piece catalogues for $15.00 in UNC. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it in MS65, holdered or not.

Hello all my ears were burning so I knew someone was talking about me...LOL!
As John said this is about the third time this seller has listed this coin. Each time he has lowered the price. Krause lists these at UNC for $15.00 and other prices for these are XF 7.50 Euro ($10 USD), UNC 12.50 Euro ($16 USD) and FDC in the green case which contain a pair of these coins with the edge legend in both directions ( one upright and one upside down rim inscriptions) 35.00 Euro ($45 USD).
There is not a scarcer variety or any collector interest in the varieties except that a proof pair should consist of two coins with opposite edge orientations. A month or so these coins were selling on ebay at crazy prices even for poor examples. Many sellers over blow the fact that these coins are very rare and even though many were melted by the Central Bank around decimalisation (possibly 1,250,000) in 1971 and many more were melted privately when the price of silver was very high in the 80's these Deic scilling are common. A nice uncirculated example is very cheap and one should wait to find a really nice example with sharp rims and minimum bag marks. PCGS slab or not I don't think this one will get the bids this seller is looking for. I just saw a set on ebay of three scillings with a BIN price of $90 and bid price of $75 that didn't go anywhere. There was one in a commemrative case (these are not proof just UNC) that went for $29.50.
But I guess it all comes down to who is willing to pay the prices and how valuable these are to them. There are a few buyers on ebay that really pay strong money for these you will see these buyers bidding on every 10 scillings that get listed.
The same seller had a 1893 Vickie Sixpence in PF64 up for $300+ on ebay a while back. It ran several times until he started it low and it settled in the $130-150 range (I don't remember exactly). He obviously wanted to sell it and eventually got a fair price. It's his auction so just different strokes for different folks on how one chooses to run 'em.

No surprise at the lack of bidders, eh.
