A lovely specimen by Henri Ponscarmé, one of Emperor Napoleon III's favorite medalists. This particular design is generally considered to be the beginning of the revival of French medallic art at the turn of the century and the French Dept. of Agriculture used it extensively in the 1880s & 1890s.
