Shipping costs help.

A seller wants 7 dollars US to ship a slab to Canada. I think this is way too much, do you agree?

BTW, I've emailed the seller 3 times about the shipping cost and he will not respond.

  • I only charge $3.50 to post airmail from the Isle of Man!
    $7 seems steep.

  • USPS has an excellent postage calculator. A slab in a padded mailer weighs no more than 3 ounces.

    Rates to Canada:
    Global Priority Mail - Flat-rate Envelope (small) 4 - 6 Days $4.00
    Airmail Letter Post 4 - 7 Days $1.10

Even with a reasonable "handling charge", his rate seems high.

  • I've paid as much as $10 for a slab, and twice. I thought the seller would use registered mail, but when I saw the stamps on the envelop, they were $1.10. image So since then I always suggest the seller the shipping method(depends on the value of the coin) that I prefered if it's not stated on the list.
  • Simply count the shipping costs as part of the coin's cost and see if it is still a good value. For example, if I see a coin I value at $10 and shipping is $7, then I only bid $3.
Normally if shipping seems high I will routinely ask the seller what minimal shipping might be. If it remains outrageous then I won't buy from that seller even if the item is a good deal. The USPS calculator is a good yardstick for costs. If you even have the sellers address you can even go to a map.com type site and see how far he has to drive to the post office for his gas costs estimate. And figure in a little bit for a mailer too. But there are too many greedy sellers out there that just take for granted they should make a profit on the shipping too. Have you noticed the Chinese seller(s) that sell those nice fakes for a couple bucks and $20+ shipping costs? What idiots are actually buying from them?!?
