You have to wonder how a team with such talent can play so badly so often. What is going on?
  • Texas is a very good football team that just
    can't beat Oklahoma.

It's also true that they for some reason can't
play 11 strong games a year. They seems to
take weekends off against certain opponents.

They are the Minnesota Vikings of college football.

No team should "drop" in the standings when they win.

I guess there are two schools of thought on that. image

Not that I think they should drop below a team with more losses.

But I think a pathetic showing could be punished by dropping them below a closely ranked 1 loss team.

  • the Longhorns are my favorite team, so i'm a bit biased, but i'll give you my take anyways.

it wasn't a "pathetic" win. they played pathetic for about 52 minutes. dumb penalties, bad playcalling (since the VY/Benson running duo worked so well last game, lets start having Young throw the ball all over the field and turn the ball over!), etc. but with under 8 minutes left in the game, they were down by 10 points. they scored 14 unanswered, and stopped KU. they won the game. and Kansas isn't as bad as their record suggests. they lost 3 games by a total of 8 points. if they would have pulled those games out, UT would be looking at playing a 7-3 team on the road.

and Marc, you are absolutely correct in saying they can't string together 11 strong games in a season. they've been horribly inconsistent, mainly due to awful coaching. they'll play one week where they run the VY/Benson rushing attack to perfection, throw in some safe passes, and the occasional Ramonce Taylor gamebreaker play (who is quickly becoming my favorite player to watch). then the next week they'll change their playbook up and play to their weaknesses. i have no idea why they do this, i've stopped trying to figure Mack Brown out years ago. but the fact is, they're 9-1. they can overcome their stupid mistakes. if they pull this shi!t in their BCS game, they're toast. i'm PRAYING that UT ends up facing OU in a bowl game- the Red River Revenge. cause if Texas is on their game, they can crush any team in the country.

and seriously, what team in college football hasn't faced a few tough games this year? even #1 USC was down to Stanford at halftime, and they pulled it together to win. OU? they had to rely on a last second missed fg against OSU. they were ahead most of the game, but they could never put it away. Cal only beat Oregon by 1. teams have bad games, but all that counts in the end is a win
  • Very True.

    Texas has GREAT talent.

They are sort of like the Yankees, really.
They always get one of the best recruiting classes in the country.

Everyone thinks they stink because they get skunked by
Oklahoma all the time. This team is very good.

They should really put some October SEC opponents on
their schedule. Or they should ask a PAC-10 team to come
    visit them in September.

The Longhorns worst opponent is themselves.
If they had a coach like the guy at Rutgers, they
would be in the top 3 every year.
