Need some Morgan VAM help here ......

I'm checking my Morgans against the VAM list.

The first one I found is a 1878 7/8 TF MS62 Strong graded by PCGS .. It appears to be a VAM 34

How common is this variety?

VAM 34 is a tough one... about a 6 or 7 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest) -- although it should be noted there aren't exactly a lot of people who collect 7/8 varieties right now. But hang on to it, because you never know.

Kind of middle of the road, according to Van Allen. I-3, R-5. Not a Top 100, so it's not listed in Michael Fey's price guide.

How do you know it's a 34?

VAM-34 and VAM-32 are often confused. VAM-34 has a die gouge running from the top leaf into the cap fold. It looks like a dashed line.

VAM-32 is rarer and worth more. It has a polishing line through IB of LIBERTY.

Wolf359: on the VAM32 would that die polishing line happen to be diagonally across the top left corner of the "B" starting lower on the left side moving upward?
