All prices include insured shipping (in the US).

Alexander the Great, AR Tetradrachm, 336-323 BC, VF, This coin will be offered for sale at a later date.
Babylon Mint - issued 325-323 BC
Mint Control Mark - Bee with "M" below, Trident Head in ex.

This coin was issued during the lifetime of Alexander unlike most "Alexander" Tetradrachms which were issued after his death. One study shows that only 18% of these issues were minted during Alexander's life. You can tell the difference in several ways, on the vast majority of lifetime issues Zeus has his legs crossed, on this coin his legs are not crossed. This coin weighs 17g, most Tetradrachms issued after his death are lighter. Coins issued during Alexander's life tend to be struck on smaller thicker flans than those issued after his death, this coin is 25-26mm in diameter on a thick flan with very high relief.

Roman Republic, AR Denarius, issued 54 BC, VF, This coin will be offered for sale at a later date.
This interesting "two-headed" coin was issued by Q. Servilius Caepio Brutus, the uncle of Marcus Brutus who was one of Julius Caesar's assassins. Sear-398

Roman Empire, Nero, AE As, issued AD 65, aF, Now on eBay
The reverse of this coin shows the Temple of Janus, during the rare times when Rome was at peace the doors of this temple were closed. This happened in AD 65 and these coins were issued to mark the event. Sear-1974

Roman Empire, Nero, AE Dupondius, Issued AD 65, VF, This coin will be offered for sale at a later date.
The obverse of this coin shows a bust of Nero facing left and a Victory with a shield inscribed SPQR on the reverse. RIC-352

Roman Empire, Maximinus I, AE Sestertius, Issued AD 235-238, nice VF, Now on eBay
The obverse of this heavy bronze coin shows a bust of this short-lived emperor while the reverse shows Salus who represents health, safety and welfare. Sear-2255 (old catalog)

United States, Trade Dollar, 1874-CC (?), many interesting chop-marks, SOLD
This is a US Trade Dollar that obviously say heavy circulation in the Orient owing to the large number of chop-marks on both the obverse and reverse of the coin. It is dated 1874 and I believe I see a trace of the CC mintmark on the reverse, but can't be 100% sure of that as there is some flatness in the area where the mintmark is located.

Jammin J, I can attest that that Albanian qindar-ar type is a stunner when in hand as my own (my icon this month) is actually a rich burgundy color that a picture cannot do justice to.

Rich Burgundy - that's great! Where were you when I was writing the acution descriptions?image

Seriously, that's a pretty accurate description for the 1 qindar-ar I'm selling this week. The color on the 2 qindar-ar is similar but just a bit darker. I have a weakness for coins with double headed eagles.image

A copper-nickel drachma issued in the last year of the Greek monarchy in the name of Constantine II. Better of the two years this type was struck. Perfect strike with complte definition of the king’s hair and eagle. Booming cartwheel luster lies beneath hints of champagne toning typical of copper-nickel coinage. Smooth mark free surfaces. Superior eye appeal Exceptionally high quality coin all around. Authenticated and certified by NGC as MS68.

Another one of JamminJ's coins, I thought I might give some historical background. In fact the monarchy of Constantine II was unofficially abolished since 1968,hence the royal coat of arms is absent . The reverse of this coin, shows the military government's emblem, the phoenix - unfortunately for the phoenix as a symbol ever since- , the soldier and the date of the "Revolution" (military coup d' etat) : 21 April 1967. The king tried a counter coup in 1968 failed and escaped to Italy where he lived in exile, until 1974 when democracy was restored and the monarchy was abolished by a referendum.
