Your favorite reference book for English coins?

We all depend on certain reference books to increase our knowledge and enjoyment of the coins we love. What are your favorite books on English coins (or any Country, if you prefer)? Other than the Spink catalog I have three: 1.) The Standard Catalog of English Milled Coinage in Silver, Copper and bronze by G. Cope & A. Rayner 2.) English Copper, Tin and Bronze Coins of the British Museum by C. W. Peck 3.) Coincraft's 1999 Standard Catlaog of English and UK Coins by R. Lobel

The first one, EMC is the only source that I'm aware of that lists rarity by grade for most non-gold English coins. I've got others but these are these ones I go back to time and time again...what are your favorites.

Bob

PS If anyone knows where I can get a copy of British Silver Coins Since 1816 by Peter Davies in the US I would appreciate you letting me know.

One of these days I have to get a Peck.

For the time being, I like Spink, Coincraft, Davies, Rayner (ESC) and Collector Coins Great Britain (price guide, published annually, now by Chris Perkins at Predecimal.com).

I pretty much agree with everything Wybrit has said except that I don't have Davies. For English hammered North is a great reference, but I would say that I use Spink more than anything else.

  • I have Spink, CoinCraft, and Peck. I like them all but use Spink the most for common inquieries, CC for history, and Peck for the really hard ones.

edited to add: I pretty much only collect coppers. image
