A good picture of what a super gem common date looks like is lot # 2113 in the Heritage Fun 2004 Sale # 336. It's graded by PCGS as MS-68 DMPL 1880-S ex. Jack Lee Collection. If it's not a MS-69, its pretty darn close and it was graded a while back (older style green tag PCGS). I don't know how to do links but just go to www.heritagecoin.com and sign up for the FREE auction archives. The coin sold for a bit over $20,000.00
By the way, there's going to be a PCGS MS69 PL 1880-S offered by Superior Galleries' Jan 10-11 FUN sale in Ft. Lauderdale. At some point it will be imaged at www.sgbh.com in their online cataloge.

By the way, I've seen two of them and they were not impressive at all.

Except for all the chatter in the cap & in the field below UNUM. It's a nice MS68.
And they went ahead & raised the price to $532,500 when they couldn't unload it at auction for $460,000. Makes sense to me.
