Now this will just piss you off...

Got it in the mail today. Purchased when I was a second highest bidder, on a second chance offer, from seller BlindMelon5. card is destroyed - practically folded in half. I have a feeling there's nothing I can do - was sent with delivery confirmation only. The slab is cracked completely in two. SH!T

DANG - that sucks. I really hate when that happens - and I've only had it happen once or twice, to PSA 9 cards. That is really unfortunate. I would ask for a refund - and show him the scan of the card. I don't know why they would not reciprocate.

It is the risk of things like that keeps me from registering cards in my Registry sets until I have card in hand. (e.g. many will register the card as soon as they pay by Paypal....)
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Oh HELL YES - I just tried to register the flip, and it's apparently in someone else's set. Keith - I think you might have been the high bidder on this guy the first time around - cert 11973073.

The card was sent in a padded mailer, which I have never had a problem with. i always use them, but i put the card in sideways (it will barely fit) and fold the envelope around twice - extra padding.

Ill check the registry, but if any of the Ryan guys recognize this cert, PM me.

The card he sent me was the one he pictured in two other auctions, but intact:

One of the other buyers must have registered it early before they had it. I've emailed both of them. Unless one of them has the same card with a dupe cert, I don't think this is really the seller's fault. The envelope looks pretty stressed. Somebody must have really wanted to mess up whatever was in the envelope though. The slab is SHATTERED - not just cracked. I think I'm a pretty strong guy, but it would take some effort for that to happen through a bubble mailer. I guess this is just the inevitable "experience" that we all have along the way. There goes the card budget for the month, but thankfully I've got a little socked away for the submission. Hopefully that will make up for this. Big bucks big bucks no whammies!

To be honest, it would probably only rate a PRO 8 right now, and I don't think I can trim the crease out.

I had the same thing happen to a 84D psa 9 Rose; bubble mailer that had a boot print or tire track on one side. Seller said he's never had a problem like that before and made good on the refund.

Additionally, I've encountered cracked slabs when sent in the 22-23 count psa bulk submission boxes. Seems to be a favored method for some dealers but at least they've made good on the refunds.

Seems there is a rash of this recently for cards sent USPS as I had a buyer contact me about receiving a damaged slab. Card was sent in a bubble mailer and "sandwhiched" between 2 pieces of cardboard. A first for me.

I just received a CRUSHED 84 Donruss PSA 10 in the mail last week. The first crushed card I have received in the mail. Why did it have to be a 10? The cool thing is that the seller is giving a refund. The bad thing is that I still need to find that card in a 10.

    mudflap;
What a shîtty mishap! I just bought that card! It was a second chance offer from the same seller and the price was right. I have bought from him before without problem. First, I hope he will make it up to you in some manner just to be humane. Second, I hope he wasn't scamming me and just didn't post a scan of the other one he was selling.

    Good luck with the seller.
  • Just had the same thing happen to me with a PSA/DNA card that I bought on EBay. Luckly, it was not an expensive card in my case. Seems to be a common problem with shipping through the USPS lately. Fortunately, even though the holder was cracked and destroyed like your, the card doesn't seem to be effected. I guess I will try to send it into PSA to get it reholdered. I have also had a problem with several holders getting warped in the past as well. They looked like somebody took a torch to them. In that case, the cards were ruined. Hopefully, the seller will go something to make it up to you.
  • I guess this is another example of where insurance might have been worth it.

Ive had that happen to me a couple of times as a buyer and just put the "not responsible for uninsured mail" disclaimer in my auctions.

Sometimes you just have to wonder how damage like that happens. But there is a lot of machinery involved in mail sorting so maybe it just got caught in a belt or whatever.

Too bad its a 10 though.

that really sucks. Never happened to me, (knock on wood) but I could see how it might happen. Wish you the best.
