Do you mind getting upgrade offers?

LindeDadLindeDad Posts: 18,766 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have recieved email offers, and also requested offers for upgrades to my sets. So this has made me wonder how many of you out there.

1. Don't want to recieve email's with upgrade offers.

2. Want the offers and feel they are helpful in improving and upgrading your sets.

I will say that I want to get email and or PM's offerings from members for upgrades, but please include your price, and please don't be offened if I decline.

    I agree with your approach.

Many of the higher level coins never see EBay or Heritage. These coins go from person to person. I typically want my better coins to go to registry collectors to help promote collecting. I also find that registrants appreciate the coin more than someone acting as an intermediate.

Therefore, I like receiving offers and hope no one minds getting offers. I like your suggestion of including pricing and feeling free to accept or decline.

A reply saying to continue with the offers or to stop the offers is appropriate.

  • I just came across a bunch of PR 70 DCAM Roosevelt dimes. I was thinking I would send some email to those registrants who have provided an email address. Since we don't have to make our email address public I assume those who do want to get offers. I will take the advice above and list prices.

I agree with the above, A lot of top pops and quaility coins never is a auction house and are sold between collectors and forum members. I have purchased many coins from forum members without incident!!!! So if you come around something I maybe interested in by all means PMimage

Some of my best coins have reached my set via this route. I'm all for it, and hope the offers continue. That said, I do turn down offers sometimes, but dont write me off your list. I may have said coin submitted or waiting to be submitted. image

  • I love receiving the offers through eamil and PM's. I have purchased several over the last couple of weeks. The great part about collector to collector you do not pay the sellers fees and other hidden charges. So far so great for me.

I agree with the price stated in the offer and again please do not be offended if I decline. Nice job.

With all of that said I am always looking to upgrade my registry set. image

Most of the coins I need rarely show up on Ebay anymore, so I always welcome any offers.
I received an offer, just a couple of days ago, for a coin that i have been looking for for over 2 years, and needless to say, I bought it.
I also agree, that you must include prices and not take me off your list if i decline the offer.
I hope everyone will feel free to add me to their contact list and send me any offers you make have. image
  • I love the offers . However, if I say no thanks then don't bother me any more.
  • I like the offers, PM or email. I have purchased many coins from registry members
and have received many hard to find coins.image

  • I am missing something here, if you don't want any emails about your coins don't list you email address.

Also, when it comes time to sell what difference does it make where the coins get sold, that is really silly to me.

As, to coins never reaching Ebay or Heritage, does anybody have any facts on how many of these coins came from Ebay or Heritage.

These are just coins listed and the rankings are meaningless anyhow, only Grade is considered eye appeal is not factored in.

Somebody could have the top rated set and the worst looking coins.

Let's not think we are better then anybody because we've keyed some coins into a Database.

I very much appreciate offers. It's been one of the best ways to locate good quality coins that I want.

I agree with you 100% and that was the only reason I entered my coins in this Database. I didn't really want to enter them and resisted doing it for a couple of years because I didn't and don't believe in the ranking system being used, but I finally realized that it was free advertising for me.

If people send me mails that I don't want I ask them to stop if they don't I just block them from my email. Also, there is no requirement that I know of to enter your email address.

Adding a little update to the topic. Not all email's or PM need to be upgrades. I have been searching for the last coin to one of my sets for a couple of months. No luck on teletrade or eBay have the searches saved just no coins. Recieved a PM last night and guess what I just bought two of the coins one 65 and a 66 from a board member that I won't name. But will say a big THANK YOU to.
Just so you all know what I am seeing from watching this thread is that if a member lists there email addrees there in favor of upgrade offers.
Members that don't list there email don't want the emails.
    Thanks for the info.

Oh and BTW saintguru you can't upgrade after you get to the top.
  • i am glad to hear things worked out for you and you got the coins you were searching for that great.

Even tho I have an email addy which is public I get very few contacts offering to either sell or buy, and actually more have been wanting to buy than to sell. I posted it largely to exchange info with other collectors and if an offer comes thru I reserve the right to accept or decline.

  • I've never had a problem with someone offering me something that fits in
a set. The only problem that I have is when occassionally someone tries
to send me a generic sales list that I didn't request. An unsolicited offer for
a specific coin is fine (and appreciated): Don't spam me with a sales flier.

  • Robgetty:

You should be complaining to David Hall at PCGS, everything I get coins back they are full of printed advertisement. All kinds of garbage from different Dealers and Auction companies that are nothing more then spam.

I have written them several time to stop sending me that junk just return my coins but I never get a response.

So, PCGS is setting the example on Spam and they are probably making money off it also, I'll bet they are charging these Auction Compaies to include the junk advertisement in the return coins.

Anybody that doesn't like spam should write David Hall he is setting the example.
