One collector's poison is another collector's passion - a Toned Peace Dollar

I went to the Chattanooga Show today - lots of activity, although most of it was tire kicking from what I saw. Anyway, I'll get into more detail about it tomorrow. I spent most of the day hunting down neat darkside stuff - but I did run into a coin, which, I liked a lot because of the abundance of blue hues on the obverse, but a friend told me that I was an idiot to pay what I did for it. image That may be the case, but I liked her. What are your thoughts?

I did not call you an idiot. image

    Well, not exactly. image
  • Very nice, Frank. I can't wait to see what darkside coins you picked up.image
  • The colors are very impressive, but even more so is the strike - nice detail -pretty unusual on those Peace Dollars isn't it?

  • I typically don't like Toned Peace dollars, but in this case.......I think the coin is a real winner.....are you going to get it slabbed????? I am assuming it's raw suince you didn't mention a grade.

I need to tag along with you to coin shows......you've obviously got a good eye image
  • Hmmmmm, a blueberry buck.imageimage I kinda like it. If you get tired of it, I`ll take it from you.image
  • Oh - it's already graded - it resides in a PCGS MS64 holder - the smudge on the eagle's leg is from the holder.

Frank: I think that your new Peace Dollar looks nice, however I personally would not pay much of a premium over MS-64 Greysheet for that kind of toning...

Well Stuart - I did pay quite a bit over grey sheet on it - But I had never seen one of these before with this kind of color - and I liked it. Now mind you I didn't go to the poor house on this. Most of you who know me know that to me a couple of hundred dollars is big money. Let's just say that I liked the piece and I bought it with funds that were withing my means.

Frank: I figured that you wouldn't pay crazy money for the coin. As long as you enjoy it, that's what matters most image

    I like it.

Virtually any toned Peace dollar is worth a premium. That color is ok, could/would grow on me. I think my cut off point would be $80 as a 64. I would let her stay in the case for more than that amount.

    What'd ya pay? image
