I travelled to Stuttgart today so that meant that I could pop into Sonntag's. Maybe I could find an elusive Frankfurt thaler... upon going in I was disappointed to see half their stock missing. They had one Frankfurt thaler and Doppelthaler with the familiar Mädchen but the condition didn't satisfy me. I can see that this is going to be a coin I'm going to demand the best of.
So I picked up some other stuff. This 50mm medal is for the International Horticultural Exhibition in Köln (Cologne) in 1888. Super high relief and elaborate... such a big fuss over plants. But I suppose international events were a bigger deal back then.
To answer your first question: No, it is not made out of chocolate.
I picked up this little plaque too because it wasn't that much, plus I wanted something to do with Stuttgart. Strange, these plaques seem more French than German.
I have no idea how either medal will effect my sigline.

Come on over ... to The Dark Side!
If I ever stopped collecting coins I could be more than happy collecting medals and plaques. Syraq, are you listening?
