Yankee and Red Sox Rumors

Posada to Arizona for Randy Johnson.
Posada to Oakland for Tim Hudson.
Varitek as a Free Agent to the Yankees if Posada is traded.
Peter Gammons says the Boss wants Pedro.

Hell, why not just merge the Yankees and Red Sox into one team?

Varitek wants a 5 year $50 Million deal. Will he sign with the Yankees if Posada is traded? I hope he Posada isn’t traded. It used to be in Mickey Mantle’s day you rooted for players who were on a team for most of their career’s. Today we root for uniforms because the flesh inside can change at an instant’s notice. LOL. I was always upset when the Yankees let Tino go to get Giambi…it was one step to destroying the team’s chemistry.

Posada for either one of those guys is a joke, Jorge is broken down, Hudson is a stud and the Unit is
just a monster. I think Pedro is a better fit, I can see him choking in the playoffs for them next year!

Look for Beltran to .230 if the Yanks pick him up

Looks like Steinbrenner is trading away another Yankees farm boy .... is Jeter next? After all, he made a few errors in the ALCS and you wonder if Arod was thinking "I would have had it"

  • If the Yankees can get "The big unit" for Posada it would be a no brainer. Posada is overrated.

    Gemmy,

I guess we both are concerned about Yankee team chemistry and how much we want to see some fixtures on the team like Mattingly was and Jeter continues to be.

I would like to keep Posada since he has been with the Yankees since day 1. The same goes for Jeter, Williams and Rivera. I like John Olerud, Sheffield and Brown since I have been following their careers for a long time and was pleased to see them in pinstripes last year. Some free agency is good, but I think the Yankees have spent enough on free agents and believe that going with some youngsters to fill the holes would be best and also exciting.
There is no real gap in the outfield since Williams can play that occasionally while he becomes DH, so having a young guy introduced to the OF in that manner would be good. He would not be rushed in and also learn through the class veteran that Bernie is.
The Staff of Mussina, Brown, Lieber, Vasquez and El Duque is very good, but there is still room for 2 young prospects since El Duque might not be able to pitch an entire season and most of the rest of the staff are not spring chickens. They certainly can do no worse than last year as far a pitching goes.

    That's just my take

I read opinions that Posada is "overrated" and "broken down" and scratch my head. If there is any credence to these trade "rumors", it only validates that he is the most solid marketable commodity that the Yankees have, outside of the big contract untouchables. He has been consistent, clutch, durable, handles the pitching staff well and is underrated/paid if anything. He has handled all his duties despite difficulties in his personal life due to the fact that his son was seriously ill from birth and has required multiple operations. Joe Torre is his biggest supporter. A great catcher recognizes a great catcher.

As a Yanks fan, I will be aggravated if he is traded, regardless of who they may fetch in return. On the contrary, I think they should be bundling together some of their other dead wood to secure a competent backup catcher to Posada in order to give him a breather, so that his career and contributions to the Yanks can be extended. Regards.
