But a Medal
"Powers of the Soho Mint".
43mm original striking, with original tissue wrap.
Obverse, Bust Matthew Boulton.
Reverse, a chronological listing of the progress the mint had made over the years. In French, it was struck to refute Droz's claim to having made the improvements to the Soho mint himself.
Struck in 1803 by Matthew Boulton.

I have only seen that in photographs in the history of the Royal Mint that I have.

A rare piece indeed. BHM lists it as #462 under 1798. In the text though it mentions that it was struck c. 1803. It was engraved by the great French artist Dumarest (which explains the French text). In part BHM explains "These circles and numbers indicate the diameter and number of pieces struck per minute. / by 8 children without fatigue of the smallest or the greatest volume."
