Am I missing something or did I stumble into a nice score?

Coin I Won

Coin Currently For Sale

BTW This seller (Heritage) is a first-rate eBay dealer in my book. I would gladly do business with him again. Highly recommend.

It looks like you got a very nice deal.

Howerver, nobody is willing to pay $225 at the moment, but I think it's a $100+ coin image

Am I missing something, or is that a modern Jefferson nickel?!? image

    Just kidding. image

I reckon it looks like a nice score at your price, and perhaps also some wishful thinking at their price?

It seems that every so often Heritage will sell an item below market as a way to bring buyers back, and to their site.

  • Very interesting. Thanks for posting that. image
  • Thank you all for your input. I figured the value was somewhere in between.

LM - That had better be a modern Jeff. I was 5 years old when that coin was minted. image
  • Let us know if you ever actually get the coin from them or if they tell you it was a mistake (that they let it go that cheap) image - It wouldn't be the first time they pulled something like that. image

I think you did well and the Heritage bidding is too high.

Buyer and seller of vintage coin boards!

Actually that's not the case at all. In fact, the opposite is true. USPS sent it to the wrong address. Heritage kept me posted all the way. They tracked the package, had USPS send it back to them, Heritage resends the coin to me along with a Coin/Estate book (which I'm currently reading) for my inconvenience. They acted honorably and with class the whole time. I would gladly buy from them again. They are A+++++++ in my book.

Definite score. Looks true to the grade and NGC is a bit tougher than PCGS on Steps.

I'd say it's a major score when you calculate what you paid vs value of the coin.

    Nice! image

  • I have bought from Heritage. Got a nice 1858-S Quarter from them, slabbed by ANACS. They described it as having a "bomb crater" in the field. There was a small damage mark in the field, but not anything bad.
I was real happy with the coin. There were no other bidders and I got the coin at the starting bid.
It was the "Mintmark Left" variety. This variety is quite rare with only a very few pieces known.
I tried ordering a coin off their fixed prices though, and even though they took my credit card info and confirmed the order......they refused to honor the transaction. They claimed they made a mistake when they sold me a $30,000 coin for a hundred bucks.

  • Lathmach, out of curiosity, what was the $30,000 coin?
