Cool! Just for curiousity sake, how perfect is it, or how perfect does a MS Lincoln need to be to make ms69?

Anyway, I've never gotten an ms69 graded of course, but I've gotten a handful of ms68's now, each of which still had some tick visible to the naked eye if you look enough. I had a few graded ms67 that actually had no post-strike flaws at all to the naked eye, but under magnification the strike was not 100%, just ever so slight weakness on the upper reverse lettering. I guess ms68's must have a full strike. My nicest coin of all is still the tough date 1997. It has a full strike, perfect luster and frost, and no flaws to the naked eye, but under 5x I can find two or so very tiny disturbances in the fields. Could that grade ms69? That would be a huge date to have in ms69!
  • I have made a few MS69's and the coins that I made them with were letter perfect in all respects, no spots, full strike, plus they need that great eye appeal and really fresh glow, all were from tha last few years and all came from mint sets.

Anything is possible regarding the possible upgrade of an MS68RD Memorial Cent to MS69RD. Your best bet is to simply show them to a Lincoln expert at a major show. Dave Schweitz (Ms68 from our boards) would be only too happy to examine your upgrade shots - just make sure to treat him fairly when a coin does works. image And, IMHO, you get what you pay for - there are plenty of guys out there who know "diddley squat" about the MS67RD/MS68RD or MS68RD/MS69RD cent "line" who will happily look at your coins for free as well.
