Ebay sellers

You got to love when you buy cards because the scans look mint and the description says mint then you get the cards and they are not even close to mint. I bought a couple 86-87 Jordan Fleer Rookie Stickers and a regular issue Fleer Rookie a couple weeks ago. When i got them i could tell they weren't mint but sent them into PSA. The Regular issue came back a 6 and the stickers came back as 7's. I paid a good amount for these so called "mint" cards. I am starting to get back into card collecting and don't know how you sellers out there handle this. Do I ask for a refund since the cards are not in Mint condition or do i just live and learn, the seller did offer a full refund if they were not authentic but nothing about the condition.

Personally I live on the live and learn if the cards are inexpensive. I rarely buy expensive cards on ebay but when I do, I inspect them immediately and would not hesitate asking for a full refund. Afterall, they misrepresented their product.

  • i just sent him an email with the grades i got back to see what he says. I told him i am willing to pay what the cards are worth, which is $200 less then what i paid.

I honestly think you're out of luck.
I hate it when sellers push the word "mint" in order to try to boost
sales of whatever they're selling. Also if it were "mint" especially for
the cards mentioned.....why isn't it already graded?

Good luck on trying to collect the difference or refund.
He may just throw the "pictures/scan were posted ...." bit
  • i figure i am out of luck just worth a shot... I am def going to be more aware now and only buy graded cards unless i see the raw card in person.

Maybe you should not bid on only graded cards as there are raw cards worth bidding on. You should email the seller for a full description for any potential purchases. I bought a lot of about 18 raw 1974 cards (included a Ryan) for about $17.00. The lot was described as "great condition" and the scan was should they were in decent shape so I took the chance. Most of the cards were in near mint condition with the exception of the Nolan Ryan. That was the best condition of the lot! The Ryan is being sent to PSA this month and it should grade a PSA 8, maybe a PSA 9! So there are deals to be had.
    Best of Luck,

  • sorry i miss worded that, i did pay but didn't recieve what I expected. I was Expecting an 8 or 9 by the way the guy described the cards to me. He got back to me and said he cracked it out of a BCCG 9 holder before selling it, why i don't know but whatever. As said before there's nothing that i can do and hopefully down the road the cards might be worth a lmore.

    how much did you pay?
    Good for you.
  • He could always use the "you could have damaged the cards" bit. Had that happen to me. I bought a 1979 topps set with gretzky included. The seller said that all the cards would def score a psa 8-9. The gretzky may get 7 and the rest of the cards had dings and creases. I asked for a refund and he accused me of "trading" out the good cards and putting bad ones in there place and/or damaging them.

I bought a 1980 topps gretzky 2nd year card, GEM GRADING COMPANY GEM MINT 10 ..yeah right the card was soo trimmed.

Bought a pack of 1979 topps cards off ebay and when I opened the bubble pack they arrived in the pack was open with the cards falling out of the pack...the seller said that prolly happened in the shipping, greatest part was that the cards were really 1980 topps hockey instead of 1979!!!

    Gotta be careful out there..............

  • oh I forgot, I sent a guy 1,000.00 for a gretzky psa rookie opc and never got the card, ended up being a scam, pay pal and ebay would not help me out at all.

  • Crazyjoe:
Actually most raw Jordan rookies on ebay are counterfits,so in a way your actually lucky. Also if a seller says the cards mint,it usually isn't. I usually drop 1-2 grades from what the seller says. So if he says mint figure its NM or NM/MT this way you don't overpay. If the card is nicer then that then you will have a nice suprise!
  • Just wanted to add:There are many good sellers out there that grade correctly. It's just a matter of finding them. Once you find some honest dealers, you usually don't have to worry about there grading.
  • If you would have gotten 9's and 10's and come out ahead would you e-mail him and tell him that you did better than you thought and send him a check for the difference?
Culpepper to ?, only God knows at this point!
  • Well i was told it was a BCCG 9 so obviously i was expecting more. As i said i am new to grading cards and maybe BCCG is alot easier on grading then PSA.

BCCG is nowhere near as strict as PSA..

BCCG even has a different grading scale than BGS (go figure!)

but in BCCG's defense, a "9" is considered "Near Mint or better" which is supposed to mean a "PSA 7 or Better"..
