Got my grades! Move over, Marty!

seanqseanq Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭✭✭
I thought these were all solid MS65 full steppers, with the '39-S and '53-D the best of the batch. My comments in bold:

LINE # CERT # COIN DATE DENOMINATION VARIETY COUNTRY GRADE
1 2175#### 1939-S 5C Reverse of 1940 USA AU58 *choke* *gasp* Oh no! Marty, move over! Can't wait to see what I missed here
2 2175#### 1951-S 5C USA MS64FS Not bad. Happy it went FS, not thrilled with the 64
3 2175#### 1952-D 5C USA MS65FS This is more like it. Pretty tough date for FS. Pop 36, with 21 more in 66FS
4 2175#### 1953-D 5C USA MS65FS image Whoo hoo! The grading gods giveth and they taketh away. The easiest of the '53 nickels in FS, but still a tough coin. Pop 54 with only 9 higher.

Date Received: 10/12/2004
Date Shipped: No Date Specified

Silver lining: The grades were posted one day late, so I should be in line for one free submission. It's almost like I'm getting a mulligan for Line 1.

This was probably the last batch of PCGS-worthy material from my raw set of full-step nickels, assembled over ten years ago, unless I get bold and submit some moderns. All in all my set held up pretty well by current standards - they key to that statement being knowing when to stop sending them in. Based on Line 1, I think I'm there. image

Why did you blank out the cert? Do you think that someone will hijack one of your 65FS Jeffs for their registry?
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Uhmmm... sure, that's why. image Honestly, I'd just seen others do it when they posted grades, and figured it was prudent for some reason beyond my personal experience.

If you want to see them, I can put them back. Heck, the submission is on the Big Board already anyway, you can go look at them for yourself. image

BTW, I'm trying to value these guys - do you believe Teletrade hasn't auctioned off a '52-D in PCGS 65FS since July of 2003? or a '53-D in PCGS 65FS since January of 2003? I'm really surprised - and off to eBay and Heritage next.

It's always a good sign when you make a coin that doesn't come up for sale very often. image

Nice job with the FS ones! I have a 53-d,58, and 59 I'm hoping to make FS at pcgs right now. The 53-d and 59 should be ms65+.

    Bump for the morning crew.

I hafta admit I'm a little disappointed no one has either (1) teased me for the AU58 or (2) told me I suck. Here I was hoping I'd gain entry into both of Mad Marty's exclusive clubs with one submission. If it helps with (2), I just looked up my original cost on the '53-D - I paid 85 cents for it. image

Sean, if the 53-D would have hit a 66FS then you would have gotten plenty of U Sucks. But nothing there is U Suck material , but you are getting closer.. As for the AU58, I'm so proud of you!!!
