What do you guys think of this card?

Does this card look legit? Does anyone here have any experience with GEM grading? I'm sure that they would grade trimmed cards but I'm wondering if anyone would trim a cheap card like this. Seems like a lot of work to not make any extra money. If any of you 85 guys read this, tell me what you think of the size of the borders as to whether or not this card is trimmed. It seems like this seller would make more money from sending these cards to PSA because this card looks super clean from the scan. I'm not interested in this card in particular but this seller has many others that I am interested in and I want some opinions on if GEM cards are notorious for trimming as PRO cards are.

If it's not trimmed, what are the odds that it's colored?

Well, I just won this card from him. I just sold this card in a PSA 8 for $26 and the last 9 sold on ebay for around $100 if I remember correctly. Based on those numbers, a PSA 10 could be very profitable. So, I figured for $13, it's worth a shot. My only point in buying these types of cards is to crack, regrade through PSA, and resell. This seller has some nice minor league cards that are graded through GEM that would be profitable if they we're graded by PSA. I'm not too concerned with what grade they will get because I can determine that when I have the card in hand. I just don't want to get back 20 cards that say "evid of trim". Anyone else ever cracked a GEM card and resubmitted?

I bought one "GEM" card several months back just to test it out... it came back "evid of trim"

That guy sells a lot of cards. I've got a feeling that he'd send his cards to PSA if he'd make more money, don't ya think?

I bought an 1985 Topps Football Dent RC graded by GEM. PSA returned "evid. trim".

I'd put GEM in the PRO category: presumptively altered.
  • Judging from what I can see in the scan, this card doesn't exhibit any signs of trimming. The danger would be in any color touch up. At the open bid it's worth a gamble.

  • I bought a GEM 10 Wayne Gretzky Topps 1980 2nd year card from this same seller. Spent 100.00. Card was shipped very very quickly!!!!!

    and it was trimmed.

Thanks for the responses. I love checking with people on this board before dropping any big money with certain sellers. At least this will only cost me about $20. The info on these boards is priceless.
  • Bought a GEM 10 Lawrence Taylor rookie cracked it sent it to PSA and it came back an 8.
with Gem its either gonna be Trimmed or a couple of grades lower than that of a PSA, thus the
    cheap prices

I have nearly 60 '85 Topps FB in PSA 10 including the Moon RC - none have edges & corners that nice. It just looks to good? This MOON RC usually exhibits a slight tilt in the border as well ... it's hard to find one as symmetrical as this one.

The last EBAY '85 MOON PSA 10 sold just under $500. The PSA Pop Reports shows 12 PSA 10s out of 1106 submitted.

    Keep us posted!
