I have monitored this forum since I signed up with PSA Collector’s Club about six months ago and finally decided it was time to make an introductory post. Over that same period of time, I have begun to put together a number of registered sets. My collecting focus is divided into two areas: (1) Late 1970s/early 1980s baseball, basketball, and football sets and (2) Tallboy basketball sets from 1969, 1970, and 1976.
For the late 70/early 80s stuff, I generally look for PSA 8s without qualifiers (As a personal aside, there are too many cards I’d like to have to bother with 9s and 10s, and philosophically I don’t believe in paying the kind of prices associated with them.). I have or will have soon registered baseball sets at various (low) percentages of completion for 1977-1980. I’m fairly well along the way with a registered 1978 football set (around 30% and soon to grow), and I have registered sets at various (low) percentages of completion for 1978, 1980, and 1981 basketball.
For my 1969 and 1970 Tallboy registered sets, I look for PSA 7s, 8OCs, 9OCs, and the occasional 6s, while I am pretty much confining the 1976 registered set to PSA 8s without qualifiers. I am happy to say I am over the 90% mark for both the 1969 and 1976 sets. The 1970 set, on the other hand, has a long way to go, though I do have a nice raw set to draw from (got an 8 on the Maravich) if I decide to break up that set more.
If anyone has some of the cards I’m seeking (in the grades mentioned above) they’d like to sell off, feel free to contact me. I’m most interested in lots of graded commons. After getting burned out on sellers classifying their material as vending or pack fresh, I’ve just about abandoned purchasing raw cards.

hello and welcome to the boards
I have a sweet Willie Mays Red Man card in NGS 8 if you're interested. PM me if possible.
And if you're bored, search for old threads about Willie Mays Red Man cards and NGS - you'll be entertained.
I've seen the big debate on the boards about the effects of qualifiers on the value and desirability of a card. Personally, I'd generally rather have an 8OC over a 6 and a 9OC over a 7, provided the price was identical or close to identical.
