Newb ? 3cent pieces

How do you tell if a 3 cent is silver or nickel? Do they have a different obverse or reverse? Thanks in advance.

The one you linked is the nickel type. The silver type has a six pointed star on the obverse and the reverse has a large "C" with the III inside it. The silver type is smaller in size, also.

  • Melanie, that's a 3 Cent Nickel. The silver has a completely different design. You should buy a Red Book on eBay asap, as it will help you tremendously. The coin in the auction you linked should cost you about $10-$12 in that condition.
