AU GSA in "hard case"????

I know some GSA's didn't say "UNCIRCULATED" on the case and were thought of as "factory seconds" because of toning or heavy marks, but this coin actually looks AU !!!!!!!!
Even the seller says it's AU !

  • If it is indeed circulated it is one of the few that were, but almost all were bu.

There were a number that were actually circulated.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • The coin is toned, and the did not put uncirculated on toned coins. Just because it does not say uncirculated does not make it AU. I have seen coins that grade 65 or higher in holders that do not say uncirculated.
  • Looks AU to me.

Why the bidders ran a $100 coin up to almost $400 is way beyond me. What's my feeble little pea size brain missing?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

That's a good seller. It would have been VERY easy to pass this off as BU, and almost no one would question it in the GSA holder.

What you see in that auction is the definition of the term "bidiot". The coin is clearly AU, the seller says the coin is AU, and the bidiots have still bid it up to nearly $400. Amazing.

Probably kinda uncommon, an AU GSA, although not worth $400.

  • If it wasn't for the fact that the winning bidder has such a low feedback I would suspect that the reason for the high bid was because it was an 1878-CC. If I remember correctly almost ALL of the 1878-CC coins were sold packaged in the softpacks, both the circs AND the BU coins. An 1878-CC is a hardpack is something of a rarity.
  • I am amazed at the ingenuity of some folks and the lack of imagnation on the part of other folks. Yes Im am sure some circulated coins slipped through the culling process. At the same time, it is also possible that there are people out there who do not destroy these cases when they remove coins to be graded. In fact I have seen clearly AT'd coins in these cases. People can and do open these cases and chage coins around. It can be done.

By the same people crack coins out of PCGS holders, AT them, then put them back in the holders? image
You need to provide some support for your statement before anybody takes that seriously.

  • Dog 97, I urge you to get a pcgs holder and a gsa case with a cc dollar in it, an original one and look at them closely. Then tell me again how they are similar in the nature of they way the two halves fit together and how they are sealed. I dont think you will find any similarity between the two. JMHO.

  • According to Van Allen & Mallis there were 97,591 mixed circulated Morgans that went out in GSA holders.
