Does slab uniformity bother you, or is it just me??

When I get all my coins together to look at them, I am bothered by the contrast between PCGS and NGC slabs. Maybe I am nuts but I like things to be the same, especially when coins are part of a set.

It sure would be nice if there were any way to keep things uniform. Corssing from one to another seems impossible as well as only buying one slab or another, as there are nice coins in each holder. How do you deal with this other than no holders at all??

I agree. It is quite annoying. I have previously written to NGC asking for the option of a clear insert, and they are not interested in providing one at this time.
  • I think my 7-coin Mercury proof set looks pretty nice, despite the mix of
NGC & PCGS blue/green label slabs - yours can, too! image

I was recently looking through an IHC collection, and what the collector did was house the NGC coins in one binder, and the pcgs coins in another binder.

It looked good to me. image

I have no problem with it. I enjoy the contrast alot.
  • At least they both fit in the NGC box. The ANACS ones rattle around, though. image

  • Ken, I like your displays. Very nice presentation!

totally agree. your best bet for consistency is to crack all the coins out.

  • Yes it bothers me and yes the ANACS and PCGS rattlers are the worst, but when buying the coin and not the holder it is unavoidable. At least from a registry standpoint NGC allows both their coins and PCGS image
  • So when you finish your set ship the whole thing to whichever service you worship, pay $5 a coin for reholdering, and have them all in matching holders.

What's NEEDED (wish I was young and eager again) is a NEW service that uses a MINIMAL holder (think Cointain...but hard plastic) who would simply put a paper ring in the holder around the rim (oh shaddap, rim junkies) with a number and the REFERENCE as to which slab they took it out of.

    Huh? Huh, huh, HUH????

No grading......just removal and reholdering in a circular slab that would fit in THEIR albums (which would generate even MORE business)

    Simple, efficient, profitable.

Now this would be the ideal thing if you actually could get them to cross at the same grade you bought them as. The problem I have is if one service or another does not agree with the cross grade. This actually seems to be the norm. not crossing.

Yeah and if you ever decide to sell them you will realize what a really really dumb move that was.
