Question about proofs.

I'm pretty new to coin collecting and i was wondering if a set of proof lincoln cents (not in a proof set but in cardboard holders) would be worth more proof or Mint state. Dates range from 1968-2004

Depends on the grade in question. Proof and mint state are different types of minting processes. Each has its own unique characteristics and values. Proofs are available in grades up to PF68 and PF69 while Mint State coins start to trail off after MS66-67 for the most part.

It's all about condition. Given equal grade levels, though, the mint state coins would be more valuable than the proofs since high grade proof coins of that era are pretty common, while high grade business strikes are less common.
