THIS is a $700 coin?

Only halfway through today's Teletrade auction, lot 1625 sure must have a high reserve. Opened at $525, normally a $60 coin.

No, it's just more tulip-mania with toners. And now it's at $700.

    For an MS-64 1883-O Morgan. $700.

    Ah... a toner.

People who are into that stuff use a different price guide than the rest of us.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • I give up. I don't understand any of these toned priced coins anymore. It's not even nicely toned.

  • I agree with Uncle Wiggly, that is not even a nice toner. That coin with that tone would sell for about 75 or 80 dollars over at Heritage. What a bad feeling someone is going to have when they try to sell this coin later to some folks who know what it is. image

Toning patch is OK,but it should not bring more than 100-125.Just my opinion.image
Great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great!
  • THAT coin is at $700??? MAN, I should consign my Morgans...hit and run, then buy more for sane money. SOMEONE is going to be dangling from the end of a cord in the very near future...and I agree with the consensus....not even nicely toned.

Edited to add: Lot #1626 is more attractively toned on the obverse, in my opinion.

I think 1626 is FAR more attractive and a relative bargain at "only" $320:

  • Um, doesnt 'price pending' on a TT auction mean the reserve wasnt met or the owner bought it back? Regardless of which, it DIDNT SELL? Is this seller NUTZ?!?!?!?!?!??

  • Crap, I have coins like that for $699.
  • Dragon....the ultra rare 'red X' Morgan...PRICELESS!! lol

SERIOUSLY.....what is going ON that those coins are seeing those prices????? Or, is it just me that thinks the apocolypse is upon us?

  • That does it. My toned Morgans are off to NGC and then Teletrade. $300, $600, $700, I don't care. I just wholesaled a nicer MS 64 than that to RCNH for $65 cause I wanted another nicer one I bought paired with it! No more dumping for me. WOW these prices are nuts.

I think that morgan in the teletrade auction is very attractive, but definately not $700 worth of attractive...... image
