chopped gold?

Are there any examples of chopped gold, like the chopped trade dollars. Did the U.S. trade in gold with China during this period and if we did, did the Chinese chop them? Just an interesting topic for me, thanks for any replies.

Yes gold did get chopped but you don't see much of it because one much of it was melted down for the bullion as "damaged gold" and two a much smaller amount was chopped in the first place because the Chinese preferred to be paid in silver.

I've seen one or two in auction.

I have heard of chopmarked U.S. gold, but have never seen an example.

However, I do own a chopmarked gold Zechino from Venice, minted in the mid-17th century.
