POLL: Do you have any self-discipline?

It's very tempting to buy whatever strikes your fancy, but limited resources mean that buying outside your specialty can sometimes limit your ability to buy the coins you really "need" when they become available. So, let's find out how well we you control yourselves...

  • If you include my type set as a set, then it would be in the high 90% range. Otherwise, if you just look at my main sets (liberty nickels, two cent pieces, and Indian Quarter Eagles), it would fall to 40-50%

Well, not being a set builder I have freedom to indulge in my eclectic interests. And I am also very good at managing my coin budget. image

I admit it - I did eat a tablespoon full of cake frosting this afternoon when my wife wasn't looking.

Actually, I do have a plan. The problem is trying to stick to it when I find something new I like!image

I went to a show today and out of six coins only one was on the "list" but I always claim the "type set" defense.

He's resting? He looks like he's about to rip someone to shreds!

The two sets in my signature line probably make up at least 90% of the collection's value.

I only occasionally dabble in other (usually inexpensive, less than $100 or so) stuff that I think is just too cool and fairly priced to pass up.

I did not vote, however, the discipline should be with selection. Buying quality coins for the grade and buying those coins when the opportunity presents itself is challenge enough... lets face it... some coins in certain grades just do not surface all that often.

Value-wise my type set and Proof indian cents make up the large majority of my set. I have been trying to pare down my other holdings with periodic giveaways.
