1922 Peace

At first I thought this coin had been plugged, after looking closer it couldn't have been plugged the a is still there. Any ideas on what happened here. Scans are not all that good, but its a circle like it was drilled but the a is over it on the rev.

There are a lot of A's on the reverse. (AMERICA, STATES, DOLLAR, PEACE) - Which one?

I think he's talking about the last A in America on the reverse. It looks like a plug but the A is still evident.
  • If you mean the round spot on the reverse at the last A of America one can only guess. First instinct is that something interfered with toning such as a drop of grease (like a drip from a cheeseburger, not the coin press at mint). I've seen smaller round spots where a dealer splashed some coin dip accidentally on the toning as well. Its not a failed drill job, as you said, if only because the date isn't worth a repair effort.

  • I guess the scans are worse than I thought. The last A in AMERICA.
