I really haven't seen too many that don't have fully struck reverses. All of them that I have (PCGS 1935-S in MS65 and MS66, NGC 1936-D in MS66 and MS66) and have considered buying in Mint State do.

With that said, I really enjoy the design, nice to see the familiar Balboa Park bell tower on it image

I'm also admiring and contemplating that 67* toned 36-D you have over on Ebay as an upgrade - I love the sharpness and detail of the shield on it, very nice specimen! image

ttt for anything not about GtG. This topic is beaten to death already!

As a rule, the 36-D is weakly struck especially on the upper right portion of the California Tower while the 35-S coins are much stronger strikes.

Your 36-D MS67* is gorgeous but outta my price range. Guess I'll have to stick with my PCGS MS66. It's nicely struck and I think it has good eye appeal!

If you look carefully enough, getting real close to your computer monitor (and, it helps to squint, just a little) you can actually see the bell ringer up in the tower. Now, THAT'S a full strike!

Love the condition and toning on your 66, if I owned it, I'd have a hard time trading it up for any 67 short of the one that Anaconda has for sale also image
  • USArok:

Thanks for the info on the differences in strike on the D vs. S mint San Diegos.

(I spend the night in Balboa Park once quite a few years ago when I was hitch hiking across the USA)

I'd like to own this coin:

I couldn't see the ringer. Got close enough to leave a nose mark on my monitor. But then again, I have a long nose.image
