Yes...I have bben a customer for years. They just have this new proprietary software, and for the first time ever I was unable to upload a program...these auction companies need to make their live auctions more accessable...Ebay is just OK...it seems that ANR really has the best format so far...very detailed with all bids showing...just another thing they are "going better". Who knows...if they are continuous in their class act, they may become the "go-to" auction company in the next 10 years. Certainly Heritage takees the whole format for granted..from their pictures to the ebay thing. They could spend a few bucks and have a really first class set-up...but they are a little too comfortable in their own skin.

  • I couldn't download the program either. For a few attempts I shut off my firewall, allowed all cookies etc. Basically, my computer was wide open and I still couldn't load it. (Yes I've also been a mamber for several years). I am assuming it must be a technical issue on their end.

You mean you "couldn't" load it?? I never did.

  • woops, your right, I couldn't load it (Still on my first cup of joe)....

  • I tried as well. It appeared that the software loaded without any problem. Then when I went to connect to the live auction I just got a little box on my screen w/ the message "connecting to server". I waited and waited and it never did connect. Oh well, their loss.

  • I just went to www.bowersandmerena.com on my earthlink search engine and got the web page, and then linked to all prices by number for the sale. Lot of no sales; wow.

Meanwhile some of the Saints, esp. middle grade, went very high!! 1913-S ms 64...17K, 1909/8 ms64...20K!! 1915, 1920 ms64...4.5K, 5.7K...those are big prices. Esp. the first two...I suspect crack-outs, wwho WILL be disappointed!! They do NOT upgrade those dates easily...believe me!! I showed my 09/8 this week that is in a ms64 holder and looks almost ms66!! and they will not budge..

I tried to log in. No luck.
So I tried to register again and my name and password were already being used.
Tried all new info and no luck again. Gave up. They don't need my bids.

  • Looks like about 88% of the Silver Dollars got sold though even if a lot of the the copper was no saled. The really "rare" Morgan stuff (gem 1880-0, etc) brought some really strong money. I guess there were a lot a floor bids from dealers rather than internet bids. I hear it was well attended. Now that so many of the old timers in the firm have moved on, I don't even know who to deal with at B&M re: placing internet bids.

Saintguru, you're point on upgrades is well taken. Those bids could also be from mid-grade collectors vying for top notch 64's vs. the great expense of a 65. Auctions are a place to brag to show who can take more risk than the next guy. "Mine is bigger than yours."
What usually happens in the end is that all those wondrous "upgrades" that looked so great before the sale, go poof.
The majority don't work out, but you never hear about that. Only the ones that do upgrade.

I saw both the 1913-s and the 1909/8 and thought they were very nice for the grade with potential for upgrades so perhaps the prices realized were NOT so out of line. I myslef paid up big time for a 1909 Saint in MS65 which I graded very pq. At $36.8K I paid full price but today that is the way it is.

I anticipate prices at the FUN show to step to the next level and surprise all of us. That will especially be true if gold breaks through the $430 resistance before year end. Could happen and at $450 gold the prices today will be cheap!
