Why do people deface Kennedy half dollars?

As you all know by now the Kennedy half dollar is my favorite coin. It burns me up to see these beautiful coins defaced by painting. How do you guys feel about colorized Kennedys and coins in general?

I think the ones you linked to are butt ugly. I would never want to own one of those.

Although the best thing I can say about those is that they have a face value of $2.50 and are, of course legal tender, just try spending one and the reaction will be; "I'm sorry but we only accept real money"

Because old ladies buy them for their children and grandchildren - who then peel off the stickers and spend them at the corner store, which then deposits them into the bank where these defacement companies aquire them and reapply the decals to them. It's a vicious cycle.

Those are so ugly. I hate "painted" or "colorized" coins. People deface them because someone somewhere is willing to pay a premium for them. Don't ask me who would buy them, but people do.
