Grading question re third party graders

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
This question has probably been asked before-- has anyone every bought a coin from a grading service other than NGC or PCGS, and then when submitted to NGC or PCGS, the coin came back in a bodybag? If so, is there any recourse against the third party grader that originally slabbed it?

For example (and I am just using names for example purposes), if you bought an AU-55 coin from ANACS and then submitted it later to PCGS and PCGS returned it to you because it was cleaned, how would you ever seek compensation from ANACS? Thanks.

It would only be bodybagged if it was cracked out and submitted raw. Once the coin is cracked out, all bets are off so there would be no recourse even if the associated TPG had a grading guarantee. Most do not.

Your example illustrates an in-holder crossover submission. In this case -- and I've experienced the same example myself more than once -- you have no compensation recourse other than start a philosophical debate with the folks at ANACS that you can't possibly win.
    When in doubt, don't.
