Hi rfogg! You have very nice mint set of Soviet coins, which was minted by Leningrad's Mint and besides the comlete set of circulation coins you have also nice rectangular Mint's token/jeton. I bought such token in Leningrad , I think in 1983 or something like that... but mine is circle one, the rectangular looks more cool !
And for the coins, I realize that you know that you have here coins from 1 kopek till 1ruble(1 kopek, 2;3;5;10;15;20;50,1 ruble) if I rember correctly "white"coins made from CuNi, "yellow" ones , I think, from bronze, but not sure about it, should check it in Krause.
What else? The text on the set is written in English--that fact speaks that the set was made especially for foreigners and not for the domestic use.
Thanx for the replies all. I will never (never say never ) as it is sentimental. My grandfather passed and it will take me a couple years to inventory what he left me. Being a newbie at this, these boards have helped tremendously. I will continue to post pics and ask questions as you all seem to enjoy this so much. As do I (at least getting there). Any idea of what the value of this set might be?
Well, I took the book myself Krause lists it only as $ 8.00 but I'm almost sure that selling such a set at E-bay of for some Russian coins lovers possibe to get twice or may be x3 or x4 of Krause's value. Hope it helps.. and as a memory, sure it costs much , much more, sure!
Thanx Shipcoin, BTW, I like the name. Do you know of the "Admiral Gardner" coin sunk in Jan. of 1809? I have a couple of East India Company 'cash' coins. Know anything of these?
