Been there, done that and it wasn't easy. My 1916 is an AU-55 and the 27-S is an XF-40 though. The two last dates I got, the ones that were truly hard to find, were the 23-S and surprisingly the 20-D. Right now Heritage has a good number of dates in their weekly exclusively internet auction, a few of them look halfway decent. Might want to take a look. Just watch out for the really bright ones.

I finally did fill the 20-d hole, at least someone else can feel my pain!

I finished my set in 1985 when I added this 1916. The coins are 64/65 quality with the exception of the overdate (XF ish) I haven't bought one in years. I kinda got sidetracked in other series but it is still among my top 3 favorite designs. image

  • It's a fun series. Beautiful coins and a challenge.

    Enjoy!

You'll never have a more challeging set to work on than the SLQ. Its my favorite coin. Tonelover's correct, there are quite a few really nice AU 58 FH's on Heritage's site right now. Good luck !

I'm always on the prowl for upgrades on my certified set and am patiently waiting for a certain someone

SLQs have actually peaked my interest as of late and I actually picked up a couple nice AU specimens the other day (Mainly for type sets) - though I don't know if I'll have the determination to persue them as a collection in and of themselves. Very challenging series to find in MS conditions due to the high reliefs and rims, but very worthwhile and beautiful. Some of the most beutiful coins I have ever seen have been SLQs to boot...

    Good luck with your collection!

I collect them but only unc ones so far. One of my best ones I bought from Tonelover. I even showed it to him again at the last FUN show. They have a wonderfully detailed designed. I find the Washington quarters flat, dull and lifeless. The Washington quarter should have only been made as a one year coin in 1932 as planned.
