This has become the off topic forum recently - please put a stop to it....

Sure, there are many interesting, enjoyable and entertaining things to discuss in life besides US coins. However, this is (or at least was) the US coin forum.
Sadly, it seems that more and more posters think it's ok to post what they feel like talking about, regardless of how off topic it might be. One does it and then others follow. It has gotten to the point where this place is more like the open forum recently.
Please have consideration and respect for your fellow forum members (and the forum hosts) who choose to come to the US coin forum and not the open forum. Thanks to those who will listen.

Busted!!
sorry coinguy!! couldn't resist!!!
I would agree with you.
It's called, simply enough, disrespect.
I, personally, think that those that do it think they are better than the rest and/or that they know better than the rest.
There is the Open Forum for OT type posting but some can be bothered to go "out of their way" there.
Sad thing is that many of the OT posters are knowledgable and good people but don't think.
Hopefully your post about it will let them think (yes, I know they all have excuses for it ).
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I say mark should get banned too for that arogant display of putrid air of unnumismatic bruhaha tone of contempt for anything other than stupid metal pieces of round. Shlep him down the bay of E, now!

<< <i>Really, if I want updates on baseball or football games I'll watch the local news on tv. Threads about stuff like that clutters the forum. >>
I am in total agreeance with you on this!!!!!
There is the open forum for this and there is a sport related forum as well.
Thank you coinguy1!!!!
Now back to our regular debates about AT vs. NT and how many POP's Marty and Russ can do!!!!
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

<< <i> I, for one, am sick of all the OT stuff lately. >>
Sometimes I am, too. But I'm even more sick of self-appointed board cops. They fan the flames in OT topics that would otherwise quickly die.
And when the thread's title is clearly OT, just don't read it. Let the moderators move it.
I used all mine last night when the RED SOX were winning the WS....during the Eclipse.
while i've also been guilty of the occasional OT thread, they seem to be an infraction that's tolerated and in that regard, a mirror of American society. GEEZ, SM1 has even engaged in some of the BS and he's a moderator!!!!!! some of the things he's engaged in are the types of things some of our, members have been banned for!!!!!! i kind of figure that the administrators get a bit weary of policing us so they let things run their course until they either get out of hand or someone with clout complains. you seem to have clout, Mark, have you PM'd BJ or Carol???
if all the OT threads were to be removed soon after their first page appearance, it would take a full time moderator at least in the short term. even Bear was a moderator for awhile and gave it up. that says something about how draining it must be. besides, the way everyone complains everytime a thread is moved or a member is banned, i just assume the vocal majority approves of OT discussion and salacious interaction.

RED SOX RULE!

I am kind of surprised at the harsh response.
Keets, although I agree in principle that moderators are the ones that should handle OT stuff, a pugnacious response probably isnt warranted.
Mark was very polite about the OT post. Everyone has to understand that some people are different in their view of right and wrong, law and chaos...
To Mark, not following the established rules is unacceptable, regardless of his past transgressions...he was merely expressing his opinion about it.
Regardless of the culpability in percent points, I think that there is a lot more stuff going on in the world more worthy of our attention to OT posts and such...(see Sudan, Iraq, Social Security, and about 10000 other life and death situations).
We all spend a significant portion of our lives talking numismatics, one of the most trivial issues the world is facing at the moment...
There is nothing wrong with that being important to us...however, we all have to ask ourselves how important is it to post a thread about the sin of the OT topic or how important is it to respond with anger to the orgininator of that thread?
Sometimes a bit of perspective(albeit only mine) is helpful,
Understandably yours,

ps - shouldn't that be 'please stop it' vs 'please put a stop to it'?? And I just think that Mark is getting his monthly quota of 5 minutes of grouchiness out of the way. Perhaps Laura is rubbing off on him. What's for November - 'teletubbies suck'?
