What a nice doubled die coin this 41P DDO-006 is. Real nice strong doubling evident even on this circulated example.

    You're both correct.

CONECA lists it as DDO-005 and doesn't provide any visual aid.

coppercoins.com lists it as 1941P-1DO-006 and gives full visual reference in two different die states.

Scarce to rare, this one usually pops out of solid date rolls and/or bags and is generally spotted in VF or lower grades. BU examples are rare and worth a pile of money. Read and see more about it here.

  • Mozeppa is 100% correct. It IS DDO-5 - NOT 6:

Strong spread on 19 of date, TY of LIBERTY, and ear. I listed the characteristic for the Die 6 in my first post. This is CLEARLY Die 5 - FS-018.3. The 3rd most valuable of the 21 known different DDO's for the date.

It is #5 by ONE reference....not by ALL references. JRocco uses the coppercoins die reference system, thus he is correct for what he uses.

I used the die reference system from C.D.'s site coppercoins.com. It is listed there as a 41P 1DO-006. We are talking about the same die variety. Thanks RB and mozeppa, as well as you Chuck, for the clarification. This doubling really jumped out at me from a pile of circulated wheaties. Amazing what can still be found.
edited to correct C.D.'s ref # which I incorrectly stated.

Call it whatever you want, it's a GREAT find. There was an eBay seller who must have pulled a few of these froma BU roll about a year ago - he sold them one at a time raw for really strong money. Tough, tough coin.

Man, there's an awful lot of SUCKING going on in here today.

Thanks guys, between this and the two 1942P 1DR-001's I pulled from circ. Lincoln's the other day, I am really happy. Amazing how a coin like this could circulate as long as it did and not be noticed before. There are great coins out there.

<< <i>There are great coins out there. >>

I say that a lot to people and for many it goes in one ear and out the other. there ARE indeed still a lot of really nice die varieties floating around out there and are unrecognized for what they are by the people in posession of them. It really is worth getting into and really is a fun, challenging, and rewarding section of numismatics.
