VAM Experts: 1899-O VAM 4, 5 or 6?? Please and Thank You.

I bought these two 1899-O Micro Os today. They were in the cheapie bin , but they are problem-free. My question is which VAM are these? I think the second one is VAM 4. Is the first one the same? I can't really tell. If you need different scans, please let me know.

Thank you for your assistance.

Richard.

I am anything but an expert, but... the first coin looks like a 4 (see how the right side of the "o" is closer to the ribbon) but the second one looks like a 5 (the distance between the ribbon looks equal). It looks like you have one of each, but it might be that the toning and wear are making it look that way. Wait until someone else who is better than me shows up. Thanks for sharing them, very nice!!

    DorkGirl,

Thanks for the post. I was thinking that, too, but as yourself, I am no VAM expert. I can only distinguish between a few and they are the easy ones. image

I love searching for VAMS!!! imageimageimageimageimage

The deciding factor in differentiating between 4, 5 and 6 is the position of the 1 in the date in relation to the denticles underneath it. Post some closeup scans of the date and I can help.
    When in doubt, don't.

The VAM 5 is the toughest one of the 1899-o VAM 4, 5 or 6. VAM 5 has die polishing lines in the eagle's wing (the wing as you look towards the right). I believe there was another 1899-o micro o discovered within the past two years. I think it may be VAM32, but don't hold me to that.

The 1899-o micro o VAMS are no where near as tough as the 1896-o. 1900-o and 1902-o micro o to find, especially above VF. However, there does seem to be alot of interest though as reflected by the increase in values for these.
