NEWP - Common Date Morgan, Don't Need It, But Looked Nice! -- Opinions Welcomed

I was browsing the Heritage auction and saw this 1880-S Morgan in MS65PL. I'm no Morgan expert, but I thought it looked nice and clean with a strong strike for an MS65, so I bought it. The mark by the E at the top of the reverse is clearly on the coin. I can't tell about the light scratch near the top of the reverse... if on the coin, I'd say that kept it from going higher. It's a first gen holder. A little pricy....

Looks like a very nice piece, the strike is full and the cheek looks beautiful.
Besides, I have a real soft spot for those first generation holders!

Always be wary about how scanners capture coins. I do agree that the coin looks very clean for a 65 but from the image I wouldn't say it was PL.

I think PL (and more so DMPL) PCGS coins are a good thing to acquire in todays market.

It's been my experience that coins always look better than their images. I'd be willing to bet that the coin will be very nice looking for the grade.

You'll be very happy with that coin. PCGS has tightened up on their PL definition for the time being so perhaps leave it in that old gen 1 holder. Very clean for the grade and attractive.

I just noticed in the prices realized this same coin sold the week before..... How can that be when these auctions run back to back?
