Got these last week. Was looking for coins with nice eye appeal and raw. I love imaging raw coins, no plastic means great detail.

Wow. I wish I could get pics like these of all my Indians and Lincolns. I'm trying to capture my collection in pictures, but some of the pictures horribly suck, and with others I have to try as much as 10 times before getting something decent.

    (And if I may guess the grade -- 55, 55, 58 and 64BN respectively.)
  • Great eye! Very nice copper.

Nice IHC, Looks quite similar to the 1902 posted by Lee a short time ago. Looks like just a touch of rub, or we being to critical, because the coin is blown up about 25x. What can you tell us about the darkness just above the rightside of the wreath. Lee's coin also had a similiar darkness in that area, that I was curious about.

I just picked up my first Brown IHC. I'll try to shoot it and post it, however comparing my photo skills to yours, well would be like comparing a Rembrendt to a youngster using Crayons. (And I only only have the 8 pack)

    Thanks Ron

The big pics make me a harsher grader. My perceived grade commonly goes down a bit after I get pics. The rub on the lower curl and the bottom of the wreath are faintly visible with a loupe and may generate a 58.

Re: the dark area. you talking about below the "t" in cent?

  • Yes, I'll agree with the others. Absolutely fantastic photos. Your photos make me want to collect more copper. For some reason, my copy stand doesn't work nearly as well as yours. Then again, maybe it's the photographer...image

Mark yes, the darkness just below the T in cent, that rides along the top of the arrow torwards the wreath ribbon. Now that I'm starting to look at more more Browns, I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Your photos definetely help. Just wondering if this is one of the first places that a copper piece will start to tone/mellow in darker shades.

    Thanks again.

The darkening may just be related to early wear and grundge because that's a relatively open area of field on the rev. never thought about it before.
