I'm going to send this one in for grading. NGC shows 2 tied at 63 as the finest known..

Any opinions on this one? What about the reverse toning?

The 22 has a vam 2b which they call the moustache die break. Starts at the nose(touching it) and runs down towards the corner of the lips. The 23 has a 1d vam called a wisker cheek. It's on the cheek stating at the bottom of the nose(about a 1/8 inch in) and runs past the bottom of the mouth.
Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace dollars by Allin and Mallis is a great book for dollar vams

Most likely a 5A which starts on the cheek about level with the upper lip and moves down and to the right towards the 3rd digit in the date if you continued drawing a straight line.......

Any opinions on the grade? Could this be the finest known?

Your original post was for a 1922.... that explains it.... The finest known that is attributed is MS-64 ANACS. There's been about 5-6 for sale in the last 2-3 months. Although a R-6, they've been pretty easy to find lately. Send it into NGC and see what she comes back at.......
