New member, 1st thread

Hi all,

I am a new member and this is my 1st thread. I have been reading the forum for about 3 months actually and finally decided to join about 1 month ago.

I am in the process of collecting 1969 topps master set, but am a very long way from being done. I have been posting my cards on the "Set Registry" area if anyone wants to see what I have so far....

I began collecting cards back in 1979 when I was 7 years old. I remember getting the 3-pane packs of topps and trading w/ my friends. My most memorable trade was back in 1982 when I traded a rookie Rickey Henderson for a rookie Tim Raines, what a deal huh? I grew up adoring the KC Royals, I still can recite their entire roster from 1976-1982. I was really happy in 1985... ah the good old days!!!

Regarding the 1969 topps master set, I honestly know very little in terms of hard to find cards and such? I also am wondering how much I should look to pay for psa 8 or greater error variations? I love this set, it is beautiful and full of great HOF players that I only heard about growing up. It is also a thoroughly challenging set to complete w/ psa 8 average rating.

I initially started buying cards from various dealers w/o first seeing scans of the cards. Upon receiving many NM/MT cards that were horribly off center and such, I realized the need to step back and learn more before I went any further.

Thanks for reading very long thread and I honestly do appreciate feedback to my newbie questions!!!

Julen

    Julen,

    Welcome to the boards. image

There are a lot of knowledgeable 1969 collectors on these boards - I'm not one of them, although I have been considering starting a '69 mid grade set.

Just wanted to say I appreciate your lucid and well-thought-out first post and I look forward to hearing more of what you have to say. (does the Henderson/Raines trade still hurt? image)

Julen , welcome aboard ! Like Zodiac I'm solely a basic set collector in mixed 7's & 8's(currently #12) so don't have that much info on the variations. If anyone does have it, it's Zodiac.

There have been a ton of '69's on eBay recently with many high pop commons going for the price of grading or thereabouts. Good luck with your endeavor and feel free to email or PM me.

Welcome to the boards and to the 69's, one of my favorites. The basic set has been my obsession although I have about a half dozen variations listed in the master. Best of luck.

A lifelong pursuit and passion, the 69' set.
If there are any particular cards you feel strongly about owning contact me; I may be able to help you along.

Best of Luck and welcome to the Message Boards. Those collecting the 69' set are amongst the best in this hobby and reach out to all who collect it. You should certainly enjoy your journey and the comradery.

The variations can be a real challenge. Obtaining quality White Letters can break the bank but you may be able to get nice PSA 6/7 versions which satisfy your needs.
My email is aja4rayb@msn.com or you can PM me using the "lock" link in the upper right hand corner of my post.
