Actually, that one (or variations of it) have been floating around for some time. While most of us are savvy enough to catch on to the fact they are scams, a percentage (estimates range from 2-5%) fall for it. When you figure these emails are sent in the tens of thousands, you can see how profitable it is to the scammers, and why they continue to "phish".

Excuses are tools of the ignorant

Knowledge is the enemy of fear

  • Hmmm...I was able to log in with a very unusual email and password. What are the chancesimage
  • I just got one that looks like it is from one of my CCs, CITI wanting me to confirm info. Well, it got quarateened in my Postini because it has a keystoke virus in it.

  • As Eric said, it's one (or a variation of one) that's been floating around for a couple years now.

    Just remember:

PayPal and eBay will NEVER send you a "generic" email addressed to "Dear PayPal (or eBay) user",

If you get an email from either company, and it's addressed to anything other than your name (not your user name, your real name)
it is bogus............. They will ALWAYS address you by your name.
They will NEVER ask you for any personal info in an email either.

NEVER click on a link in one of these "phishing" emails.

Just delete them. (or you can simply forward them to spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com )
