Just found a 1880/79-P Morgan dollar in my collection

I found this variety last night while looking at my morgan dollars with a 5x loupe magnifier. Underneath the second 8 in 1880 was the top of the 7 and I could see some of the 9 underneath the 0 but not very clearly. I thought it was a neat looking over date. I had this morgan dollar for about a year. My grandma gave me about 5 of them that she saved. She's 95 years old now. If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't of even found it. I grade the coin VF-XF. I know it's not worth that much money but it's my first variety that I have found personally.

If I had a digital camara I would take a picture of the coin. When my dad buys one for his Ebay business I will post it.image

Congrats on finding the overdate but don't expect to get rich. I have a slabbed MS65 1880/9-S Morgan and can tell you there isn't much interest despite a low population.

Good for you coinJP. I love finding varieties as I feel it is one of the areas of collecting that you don't just collect with a large checkbook. You collect because you enjoy collecting. Keep hunting and you will find A LOT more.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
