Ellesmere

I have never done business with Ellesmere but see a coin on their site that I like. From those of you who have dealt with them, are they good to do business with? Are their website prices firm or will they negotiate some? Do their descriptions tend to be accurate? Any other experiences you all have had in dealing with them would be helpful to me and appreciated.

I've bought from them on eBay only. Excellent eBayers & fantastic coins.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • They NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR update their web site.... I don't even look at it anymore....
  • I've bought several coins from them and have been pleased with the purchases, mostly commems. You can also get on their mailing list and receive a newsletter from time to time. It will have their newps and a recap of the market/latest show.

  • Their newsletter is pretty good. And with a humorous touch too. One issue even explained "Why Ellesmere?" It was done with the author's commentary of a just finished coin show(LB I think about 2-3 years ago) People kept calling him Ellesmere. What I got from the artcle was why not Ellesmere, it's sounds neat and it's an Island in Canada.

This is the reverse of the 1940 Walker in PCGS MS-68 that I bought from Ellesmere about 4 years ago. I have bought four coins from them since. All very positive transactions. This walker has just about the finest reverse I have ever seen on a walker including all of the Jack Lee MS-68 Wallkers.

Yes, they are always somewhat flexible on the price depending on how long they have had the coin in their inventory.

It is possible to get a lower price from time to time. I've had to return coins occasionally but overall very good people.

  • Thanks for all the responses to my question about dealing with Ellesmere. It's appreciated.

Oreville, your 1940 Walker in 68 would look great next to my 1941 in 68, a former Jack Lee coin. You are right that the reverse on your 40 is great. I have a photo of my 1941 in 68 in my Walker short set registry listing under "Impalasteve's Short Set." I don't know how to import the photo into this forum.

  • Lots of hype with the "Winning Edge" and mostly overpriced coins IMO.

Their publications are fun to read. They used to have a policy where if you waived your right of return they would drop the price five percent. Don't recall seeing that mentioned anymore but gives you an idea of what they will probably do on a coin that is stuck in inventory. I have purchased a dozen or more coins from them over the years.
