Technically, PCGS could tell you when a coin was graded based on the cert number, but they won't.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Forum member Conder101 has produced a great book on all different types of slabs. While it doesn't break down when slabs were done
by the serial number, it does give a good idea between what dates slabs were made by their design. You can PM him for details if you want
    a copy.

  • Kranky has it right. Yes they can, and no they won't. They may not be able to trace the resubmittal history of the coin but from the serial number they can tell when it was last slabbed. But since by their doctrine all PCGS slabs are equal and the grading standards have never changed, when a coin was slabbed doesn't matter and they don't want to encourage any speculation that standards might have been different at differnt times, so they will not reveal when a coin was graded.
