Scam or not a scam?

ebay seller's current auctions

If you look at this person's auctions, he's got three pretty high value auctions going on, ending soon. One high bidder is quattrocoins, which if I'm not mistaken, posts here.

I saw the exact same combination of a 17FH and 20-S SLQ in an auction a while ago. I can't remember when, and it's too old to show up in the completed listings. The reason it stands out is I thought it a bit odd at the time when the first seller sold a combination of these two coins rather than individually. Either way, don't even remember what happened to that auction. I can't find the other items in completed items either.

I also find it a bit odd that the photos are so dissimilar from one another. Generally, a sellers' photos similar from auction to auction.

Now, this seller, who has questionable feedback, low amounts on the only two available feedbacks, and none as a seller.

What's your comfort level on these auctions?

  • If you need to ask: Scam image

Edited to say, I don't know if it's a scam or not.

Although raw key dates are always a red flag.

David, I saw that listing and had the same thoughts and concerns that you have expressed.
  • Yes, it's possible that he's the buyer of the coins in previous auctions and he's reusing the original photos.

I will state that I didn't see the $20 Gold or 16-D Merc for sale, but it's sure a big amount for a new seller to start with.

I would be more afraid of a hijacked account at this point.

Obvious scam, and it looks like it might be a hijacked account.

I bid on the pair of quarters so that I could get contact information through Ebay (and have since been outbid). I then called the phone number provided and got a recording for a camp of some type, so I left a message.

It could be legit, but I'm with Russ in suspecting a hijacked account.
  • Thanks for the heads-up, Guys.

I have to be more careful bidding that early in the morning before the coffee has had it's affect.

Thanks for the e-mail and save, Mark. I appreciate your going out of your way to alert me.
