BETTER PICS OF THE 1943 CLASHED DIES STEELIE

I think I may have found this coin on Coneca's site. The one listed says MS-65...Pop 2. Mine's in an ICG-67 holder...if this IS that same coin, it's the third 65. image

Please note the line from the "N" in CENT from the chin to the bowtie on the obverse. There's also a mark at the back of the neck from the "C.".

Thanks Smitty. Shamika, this is the first I've ever seen also. That's why I thought it was so cool. It really is a good strike for a steelie.

TWODOGS, I found a Memorial Lincoln Cent with clashed dies going through change once. On the obverse there were three columns of the Lincoln Memorial in front of Lincoln's face and two partial columns behind him above Liberty. Anyway on the reverse it had lumps and lines like yours only different because of it being a Memorial cent. I find this interesting. How does a die clash ? image

    Cool coin!

wam98, a die clash occurs when the dies come together without a blank planchet between them to receive the strike. Sometimes the force will cause the dies to transfer parts of the image to the opposing die. If that happens, the marks will show up on subsequent coins made from those dies.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Copper yes, Steel no. Until now!! Great pics TWODOGS!!! image
  • This thread got me curious so I took a closer look at my steel cents and found out I've got a die clashed '43 cent too. Although it's raw and not as strong as Twodogs' cent. I bought it from our very own Holey of Holeys, Lordmarcovan. image

  • Nice clashed steely there TwoDogs. I have a 1984 that I found while searching through cents and it has 4 columns in back and 3 in front of lincoln, plus an outline of Lincoln on the reverse side. I read a book several years ago that described them as "jailhouse Lincoln's". I added a back page to my Dansco penny book for this and other cents that I have found, like two varieties of Wide AM's, a 100% non-copper cent, 1970-S/S large date, 1981-S Type 2 proof cent, a nice damaged lamination cent and 2 Vegas cents. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm always finding weird things and a few nice varieties that I could add onto an extra Dansco page. I'm so glad that we can buy extra blank pages!
