Anyone here good with silver hallmarks on bullion?

I could use a little help identifing what this is, it's the size of a half dollar...

See that funny little sign where the MM would be? There is also a spot on the reeded edge that is smooth and has "sterling", then that little sign in a square, then a 69 in a square, then a P in a square.

Anyone ever seen anything like this before? Thanks!!

Yup...it's Franklin Mint "States of the Union" series. They minted one for each state in Sterling Silver. I used to have a set in the FM album, but sold it when silver went crazy during the Hunt Brothers' silver debacle. They were really very attractive, but never worth much more than bullion value, like so many other Franklin Mint items. I believe these pieces contained a little more silver than the 90% half.

  • Sterling is 92.50% silver as the term is used in silverware, and in Great Britian the other 7.5% is copper by law. Hence the weight is supposedly 0.4625 ounce of silver. You may wish to weigh tho it to make sure what it is.
